Samjohn's workout journal
« on: August 26, 2009, 08:16:41 AM »
2 hours of clearing disused veggie garden with a hoe.

2 hours of splitting logs with a mighty fine axe.

3 hours of digging fence post holes.

Tomorrow I'm gonna chop down the big dead tree in the corner paddock, with axe power only. No chainsaws.
The answer to your question is 'eat more fat'.

Stop counting calories. If you are eating Paleo, there is usually no need.

If you are having weight loss issues, it'd be a good idea to start posting a detailed food journal, then everyone can help.

'Anecdotal Evidence' is an oxymoron.

Been awhile.

Basically been doing 5x5 of wide grip chinups, bench press and a dumbell squat+bicep curl kinda thing. This is for the AM on Mon/Wed/Fri.

Then everyday I'm doing HIIT on an elliptical, 5 min warmup 10 cycles of 20 sec at 85 rpm or higher and 10 at 35 rpm. Then a 2 min warm down.

Add to that various farm stuff, seems to work out pretty well. I am getting a sandbag tomorrow and will throw that round every now and then as well.

I just bought a duffle bag from the army/navy surplus store for a sandbag.  Cost me about $20.

Don't bother trying to use plastic or anything inside to line it, just chuck the sand in.  I ended up with ripped plastic mixed with loose sand the first time I dropped it  ;)

Just got a cheap proper sandbag made out of hessian sack. Can't change the weight of it, so got a 60kg one, figure that will probably be quite an effort for a long time.

So back in the city now, workouts changed a little. All weights and sprints.

The sprints work out well, I take the dog for a walk at night, and every 5 minutes we race each other. He thinks its the absolute best thing in the world and I notice week by week changes, getting faster and being able to sprint further/longer each time.

A bit of a struggle to be honest :)

Sand is very messy. I hate sandbags that actually have sand in them.

My answer? Pea Gravel or Aquarium rocks. You won't tell the difference, except when you drop it - sand won't leak out of the zipper and various seams into your hair, skin, eyes, etc...
Diets fail because society as a whole believes body image is more important than health. The problem is that obesity is simply one of many symptoms of an illness, not the illness itself.

And I'm being cured.

Or buy a bag of some sort of grout or cement mix from Home Depot and stick it in the duffel bag without opening it. :)

Both good ideas. I'm starting to realise how important lifting awkward stuff is for whole body strength. You hurt in new places that no weight session ever touches.
