I have bruises on my thighs from cleans....I hope that means that I'm doing something right ::)

Well, yes... and no.

Bruises on your thighs does mean that you are getting full hip extension.

However, if the bar is "bouncing" off your thighs two things may be occurring...
1. the bar is too far away from your body (it should slide "up" the thighs, not make impact with them)
2. the bar is swinging away from your body during your second pull.

Both of these things will cause you to land the clean "forward", which will set you up to lose the weight in front of you or damage your wrist from hyperextending it.

Very good points, thanks. ;)
1. but is should contact your thighs during hip extension, yes?
2. hmmm, I think that is what I'm doing.  I get too eager during the 1st pull and have a bad tendency to jump to soon.

I do clean "forward" a bit...working on that.  It's very frustrating and irritating. >:(

Here's a Q:
I have watched many videos and read diff articles and some show/say that you should come up on your toes...but I thought that was a no no.  I thought that coming up on the toes is what makes you clean forward and lose it.

Also, I know my pull at some point is off b/c I feel it in my arms after a while. >:(  Where do you think my problem is?

Thanks ;)

Absolutely, but the bar should not make "impact". It should slide through extension and be pulled "up" the thighs. If the bar "bounces" off the thighs it will cause the bar to swing outward.
Check here (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eo2KjAHZeZ0) for a link of me slow-mo'ed to see what I'm talking about. Sorry about the camera angle, it wasn't my intent to display my lower half so prominently.

2. hmmm, I think that is what I'm doing.  I get too eager during the 1st pull and have a bad tendency to jump to soon.
Unless you are very short, slow down your first pull. Once the bar passes the knees though... get real aggressive with the pull.

Keep the bar closer to your body, and keep as much of your body as possible over the bar during the first pull. You want to pull the bar "up" not "back". This is the main difference between a clean/snatch pull and a deadlift.

Here's a Q:
I have watched many videos and read diff articles and some show/say that you should come up on your toes...but I thought that was a no no.  I thought that coming up on the toes is what makes you clean forward and lose it.
Coming up on the toes is fine during extension, in fact it's just about the only way to do it. Coming up on the toes when receiving the clean is an issue, normally with hip flexibility.

Also, I know my pull at some point is off b/c I feel it in my arms after a while. >:(  Where do you think my problem is?
If you aren't using a hook grip, you should start... it hurts at first but eventually your skin will toughen up. Normally when people "arm pull" the weight they are doing so because they don't have a strong enough grip on the bar. The hook grip allows you to let the arms act simply like "cables" instead of using your forearm and grip to squeeze the bar. If you are using a hook grip, consider using some weightlifter straps (not deadlift straps but short straps) so you can focus on letting your arms act as cables. Also, if your gym doesn't have a women's bar (25mm diameter instead of 28mm) then this will contribute as well.

Diets fail because society as a whole believes body image is more important than health. The problem is that obesity is simply one of many symptoms of an illness, not the illness itself.

And I'm being cured.

P.S. The reason why I know all too well the reasons for leaving the bar "forward" in the clean.

Here I am trying to clean 130kg a couple years ago. Notice I'm not sliding the bar up my thighs and it's "bouncing" off my hips at full extension, sending the bar about 2" out of path...

Day of "rest"... ;)  Which for me means that I feel like I should be doing something..more than walking/jogging/chasing the pups around.

Here's the deal---my training is going great but I'm still not satisfied...go figure.  I am making some really good strength gains but I'm not so much seeing anything in terms of "leanness" changes  :(
5'2", ~130lbs, and if I had to guess 15-17%bf.

I think I need to be more INTENTIONAL with eating (now that I know a bit more about Paleo) and set a body transformation goal.....not sure what I'm after really.  More definition in my abs and a perkier butt for sure!   :-\ :-\ :-\

OFF!  Well, besides walking/jogging/strolling with the pups and doing random things for ~30 min.  I think my body is saying "uh, aren't you supposed to be resting?!?!?!?"  Getting a mini-massage on the tree trunks (aka--LEGS!) later. ;)

The past 2 mornings it's been in the upper 60's here :)  The pups are loving it!!!!

Heavy set of 5 DL.....125#....but I think I need to go back to 115# and work more on bringing the weight up quicker.  It felt kinda slow :-\

anyway, I didn't feel so hot today....eating has been terrible and I'm paying for it.

Yeah, she has made quite the transformation.  She is so awesome!  He doesn't have her doing all of this on a normal basis but these are the main exercises she does for her glute training.  Even her hubby is working with him now.
