my training with contain nothing but front squats, overhead squats, pulls, cleans, and snatches until my hip/shin flexibility is restored.

For a few weeks now, I have been holding a deep horse stance and a primitive squat every morning and every night. Not timed, just holding it for a while.

I've been doing the same when watching TV at night, with my back against a wall to prevent me from rounding my low back... fighting off the "are you pooping?" comment from my wife.

AWESOME DAY IN THE GYM TODAY!

major form improvements already from focusing on flexibility and drills. Upping my fat to astronomic levels and getting back into the gym has paid off in weightloss, somehow I'm 2lbs lighter than I was yesterday, I'm over the "stall point" of 340lbs that I had previously before I started lifting again. My muscles are eating up my excess bodyfat now that they are needed again, I guess. I'm not thinking it's water weight as I've already lost about 40lbs just from diet alone, I stalled there 2 weeks ago and started lifting again which has put me on the right track. Anyway, I was 333.5 this morning when two weeks ago, I had been 340 for two solid weeks even being very strict on the diet.

First hour - snatch drills with 40kg, literally about an hour of overhead squats, power snatches, etc...

Second hour - snatches: 3 singles @ 40kg, 3 @ 45kg, 3 @ 50, 3 @ 55kg, 3 @ 60kg, 1x65kg. 1x67.5kg

Pemmican break!

Third hour - cleans: 3 singles @ 60kg, 3 @ 80kg, 1x85kg, 1x90kg, 1x100kg (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pOx5jZeK5-g)

More Pemmican + hot tub / cool pool break!

3 HRS. ?  :o WOW!
That's a lot of lifting! Goooo BIG MAN!

Congrats on the weight loss.

Something to keep in mind - Both Samjohn and I had simultaneous muscle gain/fat loss when we first started. We both showed no weight loss on the scale with increased definition.

I'm guessing the two of you weren't 100lbs over what you considered "optimal performance weight" either though... Once I've lost 100lbs from my paleo "start" I'll reassess where I need to be to do the things I want to do.

I wasn't comparing our situation to yours, just sharing potentially pertinent information.

Sorry didn't mean to come off like that... I am gaining muscle, but fortunately, am losing fat at a faster rate for now... plus I already had quite a bit of muscle regardless.

I'm sure that will change but it's enjoyable for now.

2.67 mile hike/jog over mixed terrain with the dog... 100* F (about 38* Celsius) heat outside so naturally, I'm soaked.

Pound of grassfed beef, two eggs, and a turnip immediately afterwards.

There was a member called Sassenach who had a drop in body fat and a change in measurements, but no weight loss. She was 100 pounds overweight.

Haven't seen her for awhile. She wasn't doing anything like the massive sessions you do though.
The answer to your question is 'eat more fat'.

Stop counting calories. If you are eating Paleo, there is usually no need.

If you are having weight loss issues, it'd be a good idea to start posting a detailed food journal, then everyone can help.

'Anecdotal Evidence' is an oxymoron.

sluggish, slow, and sore in the gym tonight. I did my work, but I think someone turned the gravity up... I attribute it to a poor choice in lunch (I popped into a grocery store and got pork skins and almond butter).

Front Squats: 3x135lbs (61kg), 3x155lbs (70.5kg), 3x185lbs (84kg), 2x205lbs (93kg), 5x1x225lbs (102kg), 3x1x245lbs (111.4kg), 3x225lbs (102kg)

Landmines: 12x90lbs (41kg), 12x125lbs (57kg)

Decline situps: 3x5

Overhead iso holds (behind neck jerk + hold): 27 seconds @ 225lbs (102kg)

I am defeating myself with this commentary by comparing my workouts to my pre-retirement workouts.
Comparing this front squat workout (which felt really heavy) to my previous one, I performed 22% more volume (reps), and 34% more total tonnage (reps x weight). In short, it felt like the workout was heavy... BECAUSE IT WAS.

/facepalm

Glad to hear you figured it out. Sucks to feel frustrated.

Even though my abs were absolutely killing me from tuesday, I got in a really strong workout tonight. This front squat focus hopefully will net me a stable clean on Saturday.

Second Ladder: 2x75.5 (165lbs), 2x89kg (195lbs), 2x98kg (215lbs)
Third Ladder: 2x89kg (195lbs), 2x98kg (215lbs) 2x107kg (235lbs)
Total Tonnage: 1574kg Total Reps: 18 Time: 40min

Snatch Pulls
2x66kg (145lbs), 2x84kg (185lbs), 2x93kg (205lbs)

Good day, medium-to-light volume and just trying to hit 2.5kg over whatever I hit last week.

Snatch - 40kg, 50kg, 60kg, 65kg, 67.5kg (sloppy), 67.5kg (awesome), 70kg
Clean - 60kg, 80kg, 87.5kg (slow and sloppy), 87.5kg (better), 92.5kg, 100kg, 102.5kg

New rule - if a lift isn't perfect, I am doing it again before moving up. If it's my last lift and I flub it but still land it, tough-titty - I am doing it again before going home.

Learning new snatch mechanics. Higher hip starts = bar swings out less. So todays snatches were more back than leg, akin to a Romanian deadlift... and they felt GREAT!

New notes on my cleans - no more coasting... must be VERY aggressive in the pull. Look UP during the pull and don't worry about "seeing" the bar!
