Surely they can't be beneficial being highly process and all?

Paleo option: get a wide variety of completely natural foods (different species, different cuts including organs, seasonal wild fruits, berries and nuts, etc.), proper sunlight and exercise and you'll get all your nutrients.

Paleo+ supplements option: get some variety of sometimes but not always completely natural foods (fruit that has been bred for different characteristics than their wild versions, any meat that's not grass fed and free range, etc), don't get enough sunlight and exercise and you may be lacking in some nutrients.

I'm not sure if supplements really help (some may, but others may not), but if they do, then they could be a sensible addition. I'm thinking of adding some omega-3 supplementation, because while my eggs are usually cage-free and free range, my meat is not always 100% grass fed.

Any idiot can get on a treadmill and watch TV and then take great pride in the fact they've exercised.

Yeah but the food you buy from the store is typically raised under conditions that make it lower in nutrients. You can either seek out the highest quality organic / grass-fed meats that you can find, or take supplements with the store bought foods. Me, I'm fine with either

I do not take supplements.
Raw meat and raw fat and raw fruit is nutritious enough.
I'm on Raw Paleo diet but I have kids to feed on cooked paleo diet.

No supplements for me either. The closest I come to sups is apple juice after an extremely intense day in the mountains.

I don't usually take supplements.  I've tried taking vitamin D pills over the winter when I don't get any sun, but it doesn't seem to help.  A small amount of cod liver oil helps a bit, but even 5 minutes of cold winter sunlight on half of my face helps a lot more.

I will take vitamin C to offset the immunosuppressive effects of carbohydrates when I have a big carbohydrate cheat, but it's better not to cheat in the first place.

So far I haven't felt the need to take any supplements. Plenty of sunshine here in NSW Australia. Would you all consider Vit D sup during winter ?

Bit disappointed in the Butchers here though, the beef is mostly grass fed but the last few weeks of its life it is grain fed, :( . Anything around this ? besides hand raising some cattle :P

I am on and off about supplements.  Currently I don't take them. True cavemen didn't take supplements, but it is believed fruits and vegetables back in paleo times were higher in nutrients and lower in carbs.  In fact I think that was true a mere 75 years ago.

I am supplementing with iherb vit D3 because there just hasnt been any sun here for weeks.

and I am taking kelp because I think the iodine is helping the thyroid gland.

but I don't know for sure.

I don't see any reason for taking any supplements either.
The "Seven Deadly Sins"

• Grains (wheat/rice/oats etc) . . . . . • Dairy (milk/yogurt/butter/cheese etc)
• Refined foods (salt/sugars etc ) . . • Nightshades (peppers/tomato/eggplant)
• Tubers (potato/arrowroot etc) . . . . • Legumes (soy/beans/peas)
• Modernly palatable (cashews/olives etc)

Yeah but the food you buy from the store is typically raised under conditions that make it lower in nutrients

This is one of the main concerns of eating the modern version of traditional foods.  Some soil quality is so poor that we don't get that full range of nutrients as we need.

And yes, I did just start to read this...http://www.amazon.com/Nutrition-Physical-Degeneration-Weston-Andrew/dp/0879838167

If it were possible right now to eat the same calibre of food that we did a few dozen thousand years ago, I wouldn't take supps.

Unfortunately that's not feasible atm

How much were you taking?

They were actually calcium pills with 400 IU of vitamin D.

Now that I've learned a bit more - see the vitamin D thread - it's likely that I wasn't getting much if any vitamin D even when I did get into the sun over the winter.  I'm also thinking that 400 IU is a lot less than I'd get from a few hours of summer sunlight per day.  I'm considering a larger daily supplement or possibly a big weekly supplement.

The answer to your question is 'eat more fat'.

Stop counting calories. If you are eating Paleo, there is usually no need.

If you are having weight loss issues, it'd be a good idea to start posting a detailed food journal, then everyone can help.

'Anecdotal Evidence' is an oxymoron.
