Doesn't this study prove a link between red meat intake and many cancers?

Red meat <> processed meat.

What kind of red meat are they talking about?
What kind of cooking? preparation?
Is it organic / grass fed?
How much proportion of Fat - Protein - Carb is the diet?

I'll bet these jokers don't even know how to cure cancer so how can these jokers even state the mechanism of how cancer works.

Processed meats are bad for all people, no doubt about that.  It's like saying people consume canned fruit.

Don't get correlation and causation confused.

Plus in the general population, (ie, people who are not Paleo)  due to all the negative press that red meat gets, only those who do not give a shit about their health eat a lot of it, and most probably do a lot of other very unhealthy stuff.
The answer to your question is 'eat more fat'.

Stop counting calories. If you are eating Paleo, there is usually no need.

If you are having weight loss issues, it'd be a good idea to start posting a detailed food journal, then everyone can help.

'Anecdotal Evidence' is an oxymoron.

I didn't see information on what total foods were consumed to reach the study's conclusions.  We all know that the worst diet you can eat is one the is high in both saturated fats and refined carbohydrates.  Did they study meat intake or intake of  buns, french fries, soft drinks?  When they isolate a specific dietary ingredient I'll pay some attention.  To me this says, 'if you're fat and eat the SAD, you may get cancer.'  Really?

Being overweight, for example, is strongly associated with an increased risk of developing several types of cancer, but the evidence that the intake of red meat (beef, pork, and lamb) and of processed meat (for example, bacon, ham, and sausages) is linked to cancer risk is much weaker.

And this doesn't tell me what happens when I eat meat, it tells me what happens when I eat crap:

The meat variables also included meats added to complex food mixtures, such as pizza, chili, lasagna, and stew.

It has results in both directions; for example it seems to "prove" that meat actually protects against endometrial cancer, leukemia, and melanoma - the dangerous form of skin cancer - if you read the study.

However, as Samjohn points out, it's not really "proof"; correlations aren't causations.  In addition, only a few of the many cancers studied had a statistically significant link, and the links were very weak, just above the 95% level.  Given the large number of cancers examined, some would be expected to be above the 95% level just by chance.

The correct headline for this study would be "meat has little or no correlation with cancer".
