Tried to make Paleo Tamales
« on: August 24, 2010, 09:41:53 PM »
Well, I tried to make Paleo tamales!  They did not turn out very Tamale-ish but they tasted good.  I cooked a butternut squash and combined it with almond meal and spices then cooked up some minced beef with onions celery peppes and spinces for the stuffing.  I did not have anything to wrap them in so I used aluminum foil.  Steamed them up for 1.25 hours and then we ate.  Ithink next time I will make tamale pie and it will come out better...
No expectations, no disappointments!

I love that I can get banana leaves pretty much at any Mercado around here, and there are plenty.

I might have to try this one out, except I'd probably go with mashed plantains and squash. My wife LOVES tamales.
Diets fail because society as a whole believes body image is more important than health. The problem is that obesity is simply one of many symptoms of an illness, not the illness itself.

And I'm being cured.

Interesting idea... I like your thought of making it into a tamale pie.  Chicken (or whatever meat) with sauce and veggies below baked with a squash/almond flour mixture on top would be delicious.
