Paleo Party Food Suggestions? Cultural Themes?
« on: September 05, 2010, 09:07:53 PM »
Hi guys and gals,

Grand birthday celebration coming up and I'd like to serve a paleo party.
My wife is exploring Indian or Thai.
I'd like to explore anything caveman.
Please make suggestions, menu suggestions, party food, etc.
I'm on Raw Paleo diet but I have kids to feed on cooked paleo diet.

•2 cucumbers, peeled and chopped
•1 green pepper, seeded and chopped
•1/4 cup fresh parsley, finely chopped
•1 small onion, finely chopped

Turkish style kebab grill. Make a narrow trough from bricks and fill it with hot coals. The trench should be long enough that all your friends/family can sit alongside, but narrow enough that a steel skewer can balance over it. Make a mixed raw collection of skewers, all with different meats and veggies on them. Allow them to "roast their own" and you've got a party where everyone appreciates the work, stays paleo, and it's fun. Plus, it's really hard to kebab potatoes, bread, or rice... so no one is going to sneak anything in.
Diets fail because society as a whole believes body image is more important than health. The problem is that obesity is simply one of many symptoms of an illness, not the illness itself.

And I'm being cured.

The kebabs sound good.  Given where you live, chunks of fish may be in order as another meat option for them.

If you're looking for an east asian slant then I recommend laksa curry for yum factor - it's made with coconut milk, ginger, lemongrass and a whole bunch of other spices.  You can make it with chicken, shrimp, both, or a mix of other seafood.  Normally laksa has rice noodles, tofu and beansprouts which are not paleo but you can leave these out and substitute sliced cabbage for the beanspouts.  You can buy Laksa paste or make your own - it keeps in the fridge for around a month.  Here's an ingredients list

* 1 Red Onion
* Pinch of Sea Salt
* 2 tablespoons Ginger (Chopped)
* 4 Cloves
* 1 teaspoon Turmeric (Chopped)
* 1 Stalk Of Lemongrass (Bottom 1/3 Only - Chopped)
* 10 Dried Chilis
* 6 Candle Nuts (Or Macadamia)
* ˝ teaspoon Shrimp Paste
* 1 bunch Coriander Root (And Stems)
* 10 Vietnamese Mint Leaves
* 1 teaspoon Coriander Seed
* 1 teaspoon Fennel Seed
* 4 Cardamom Pods
* 1 teaspoon Cumin Seed
* 4 Cloves Garlic
* ˝ teaspoon Cinnamon

While we're on the subject of malay food, I also recommend beef rendang, which is delicious, and the non-paleo eaters can have it with rice

An appetiser I always serve at my parties is 'devils on horseback' -  a prune, wrapped in streaky (non smoked) bacon, and grilled til the bacon is cripsy.
Sugar addiction kills more people than all other kinds of drugs combined

If your food needs a prefix, it's not paleo!
