Noticable improvement after only 2 weeks
« on: May 05, 2010, 10:02:03 AM »
Hi all,

It's only been 2 weeks but I am feeling so much better.  Here are a few things I've noticed.

-drastic increase in energy, my paperwork is caught up, my cupboards are organized
-my nails aren't as thin
-no heartburn or acid reflux since I started (that's a biggy for me)
-smaller jean size

I lost 6 pounds right away and haven't really lost anything in the last couple days.  BUT my body is definitely still changing.......less flabby.  I think I read somewhere in this forum that the fat is being turned into muscle in the first couple of weeks.....is that true?

I'm not one to hit the gym, I walk our dog about 1km a couple days a week, and I work 4 - 12 hour days at my business.  I plan on doing yoga again now that I'm feeling more energetic.

I'm probably eating too much fruit and too many nuts (probably why I haven't had a solid BM since I started)  But I'm sticking to the diet (except for black coffee, a little bacon & a few diet colas).

Well, the big initial loss is going to be water and glycogen (if you're lowering carbs and not eating so much bread). It can come back just as rapidly, too.

Don't be discouraged by lack of weight loss at the same pace.

That's physiologically impossible. Fat and muscle are 2 completely different tissues. Fat is an energy source of muscle for aerobic activity. The more muscle you carry the more efficient your body burns fat. If you gain muscle than your percentage of bodyfat decreases as it becomes a smaller part of larger whole.

Fat doesn't really turn into muscle - the two tissues are made of different things - but you could be losing fat and gaining muscle at the same time.

I agree with what phrakture said about expecting long term weight loss to be at a much slower pace.

Obviously impossible for fat to run into muscle, but I and many others on this forum have experienced body composition changes without losing weight. This diet does seem to help one lose fat without losing muscle, most even put on muscle.
The answer to your question is 'eat more fat'.

Stop counting calories. If you are eating Paleo, there is usually no need.

If you are having weight loss issues, it'd be a good idea to start posting a detailed food journal, then everyone can help.

'Anecdotal Evidence' is an oxymoron.

You will benefit much more from the WOE if you try to increase your physical activity to include some type of regular training.  Even just doing sit-ups, push-up, pull-ups on a regular basis along with your walking, it will really make a huge difference in how you look and feel.  Plus the weight will come off faster.  Good luck and never look back.
No expectations, no disappointments!
