4 weeks in WOW!
« on: May 28, 2009, 08:23:42 AM »
I posted this in my food journal. I guess it should have gone here.

Today makes 4 weeks and I feel amazing!

My blood sugar levels are stable all day.

I have NO cravings for anything at all.  There are 2 different kinds of cake in the house right now. I have no desire for either.  ;D

My recovery rates are incredible!!!!!  ;D

My asthma is a non-issue.  :o 8)

I don't have a dire need for food after even really hard exercise sessions.

My girlfriend keeps calling skinny and telling me my body appearance is changing.

I think I am down about 1/2 a waist size?

I can't wait to see what I look like at 90 days. I know this is a lifestyle for me now. My athletic performance matters most to me. At 42 I need to find a fountain of youth of some kind.

Sounds like you're doing great!

Thanks Warren! It is soo very exciting. ;D

It's way more than I could have hoped for.
My asthma has always been a juggling act of relaxation and perceived exertion.
I don't wake up with stiff joints.
I don't have that "I neeeed coffee" feeling.

My girlfriend is baking up a storm and I have NO desire for any of it.  There is a Zip-Lock full of gourmet corn bread right behind me, right this minute. I could care less. It's just amazing to me. :o

When I was fighting full time I lived by the food scale. I ate a diet designed by a firm called PR Nutrition. It was a 40/30/30 program. This is soooooo much easier. I feel tons better.

I just want to share this with everyone. They just ask "What are you eating? ???", "You have to eat rice?", "You have to eat pasta?" How much meat are you eating? You're going to get sick!" "Yea, but, potatoes are good!" So I have given up  ;).

It always astounds me when people see how well you are doing, but say they could never try it themselves.

My best friend started putting on weight when I did (8 or so years ago?).  I swapped to paleo over three years ago and lost all my fat.  He has kept going and is now about 15kg? overweight.  Last night he was in hospital with a suspected heart attack (he's 33).

You think he will swap to paleo?

Probably not.  The hospital visit any make him re-assess his lifestyle choices, but he will probably listen to his very overweight parents and or doctor, who will have all spend less time researching nutrition than I have  :-[.

The "Seven Deadly Sins"

• Grains (wheat/rice/oats etc) . . . . . • Dairy (milk/yogurt/butter/cheese etc)
• Refined foods (salt/sugars etc ) . . • Nightshades (peppers/tomato/eggplant)
• Tubers (potato/arrowroot etc) . . . . • Legumes (soy/beans/peas)
• Modernly palatable (cashews/olives etc)

I too am about a month in, and my results are awesome too!

I am very slim now! I was pretty trim to start with, but now even more so. I noticed that almost right away, and I like it! : ;D

I feel stronger and my muscle tone is better.

My skin is soft, clear, and smooth, and the keratosis pilaris on my arms is completely gone and on my thighs it is improving greatly, which is really awesome!

The only thing is that I seem to be very sensitive to certain foods now. I have had to cut out most nuts, they didn't agree with me very well. Dairy, which was always bad for me, is now VERY bad. Also if I have any coffee at all, I have digestion problems. And certain very sweet dried fruits (like dried papaya) make me feel a little ill too.

Hey Marika, That's a good report  ;D. Sounds like your body is letting know what you need not be consuming. Except for the nuts the rest isn't Paleo anyhow.
Keep up the good work  ;).

This is just a small step in progress, since I don't weigh myself it's one of my measures of progress.
Last week when I was mountain biking I wore my favorite baggy bike shorts and they were falling off of me. This morning I pulled out a pair I haven't worn in while that are 1 waist size smaller. They fit perfect  :)

That's great! I know it's especially gratifying to bring clothes out of my closet that I've been hanging on to in hopes they would someday fit again and they do. You did it in only four weeks - great job.  ;D

Congrats with your resul!!! :D

The only thing is that I seem to be very sensitive to certain foods now.

That's true for me too, I didn't seem that sensitive to certain foods before, I think the more I stay on the paleo the more my body looses tolerance for some foods, nothing to complain tough, if I know I'll feel sick it helps sticking to the paleo! ;)

So true, I've kept on clothes I used to wear in high school...and I'm wearing them now!!! It's so exciting for me, the other week I went to work wearing jeans I wore in high school last two years!  :D

I agree - my jeans are baggier now too!

I have a question though - why would dried papaya (with no sugar) not be Paleo?

Today is 8 weeks and I can not believe how amazing I feel! It's 57 days of Paleo! In 33 days I will reach my first goal/benchmark.

Yesterday while biking with my GF she kept saying;
"It's so good to not hear you wheezing  ;D."
and
"Honey you're talking while going uphill!  :D"
and
"I can't get over how positive your moods and energy are."

I'm still not used to not being troubled by asthma. I keep expecting that sudden feeling of breathlessness. It doesn't come! INCREDIBLE!!!!!!!
My recovery rates boggle my mind!

I don't need to carry around snacks!  :o :D

I have no idea how much weight I have loss. I figure around 10-15 lbs. My clothes are pretty loose fitting. I have to wear a belt with my shorts and pants now.  ;)

As you can tell I am pretty excited!

Good on you mate!  ;D

I'm glad to see that it's going so well for you.

I bet that is a great reward for the good work you have put in.  I think going 100% paleo is the only way to go.

"I can't get over how positive your moods and energy are."

This hasn't been discussed much here, but I wonder if there's a real connection.  I feel like I can handle things without stressing over them as much as I used to before I went paleo, and similarly for my wife.  Certainly the general attitude of people on this board seems to me more positive than on any other web board I frequent.

I agree with a lot of the positive reports other folks have written about!

I'm over 8 weeks in now, and I'm slimmer, (my pants fit much more easily), I don't need to snack anymore, my skin is smoother, my energy level remains good all day - good stuff!!

This is interesting though - I thought for sure I had lost weight since my clothes fit looser now, but I finally got access to a scale, and my weight is still exactly the same. I guess I'm more muscle now!
