Been Paleo now for 4ish weeks, started 15 Feb. Started at 82kg (180 lbs) 183cm (6'). Now down to 76kg (167lb). Mainly being Paleo for a life style choice. Have so much more energy now :D .

I do have a question though. A bit awkward to ask but how is everyones "Number 2s" going? I use to do one every day but now its out to about every 3 ? is this normal ? am I missing something?

Normal daily feed wood be
9:30 - couple eggs with bacon and a fruit (berries/apple/orange etc)
11:30 - Meat(beef/pork/chicken/sausage or lamb) and salad - (plenty of fat on the meats too)
6:00 - mixed veg and a nice fatty piece of meat again.

Around 3-4L of water drunk a day.

Cheers for any help :)

August 2006, I think.

I apparently have Crohn's disease, and the medication used to hold it in check suppresses your immune system, so I would catch every bug going around. Got a bit sick of that and accidentally stumbled on the Paleo diet, while looking up neanderthals. It made perfect sense to me, so I started straight away and have not required medication since. Now whether the results are psychologically induced or physically, I don't care, it works, thats all that counts.

Yeah you are........, your not eating enough junk to make that much waste, so your body is actually using what you put in it and not trying to throw it out the back door as garbage. :)

Wow I love to hear Paleo feedback like this. Crohn's disease is a devastating condition, and the medication for it brings some horrible side effects. Great to hear that Paleo helped so much.

I've heard too many accounts like, where eating Paleo has had such a huge impact, for it to be coincidence or psychosomatic...
The answer to your question is 'eat more fat'.

Stop counting calories. If you are eating Paleo, there is usually no need.

If you are having weight loss issues, it'd be a good idea to start posting a detailed food journal, then everyone can help.

'Anecdotal Evidence' is an oxymoron.

Another contributing effect is that some people who come to the forum either:

a) Stop posting after a while, even if they keep eating paleo.
b) Give up on paleo for one reason or another.

I qualify under #a, and stayed Paleo. At first (after reaching my goal), I gained five or six pounds (hoping it was muscle), then leveled off back down at 162 and 9% BF. I hit my original goal three + months ago and am having little trouble keeping the weight off, other than when I go to work for a 48-hour shift. I figure I need to eat extra in case we get a big worker, so I don't bonk in the middle of it.

Another one of my coworkers just had a cardiac event and bypass surgery, so he may be up for a lifestyle change as a result. I'll sure be buggin' him when I get half a chance....

Good to drop in and see the place still going strong!

Started April 20, 2010.  Down about 9 or 10 pounds so far.  It could be much more if I didn't eat so much or cheat with coffee, diet pop, pepperoni & bacon.  This is a life style change and those cheats have helped with the transition.

I'm making awesome muffins using bananas/eggs/almond flour and whatever else I find to throw in.........they have become a staple in my diet.  I also consume a tremendous amount of fruit & nuts.  As long as the weight is coming off at a slow steady pace I'll continue to disregard portions & calories.

There have been many health benefits including more energy, less acne, stronger nails & hair but the main one for me is NO MORE ACID REFLUX!!!!  I used to get it so bad that my stomach acid would come up and go into my lungs.  Depending on what I had eaten it would happen a couple times a week.  Not being able to breath and having to sleep sitting up are two things I don't miss at all.  I know if it continued I would end up Barrett's Syndrome (cancer of the esophagus).  Pizza just isn't worth it :)

Diet pop? This is one of the worst things you can do to your body. For the record, some artificial sweeteners still cause an insulin response. That said, pepperoni and bacon are mostly fine, except for all the excess salt.

Ugh. You're smoking candy cigarettes. Things like this may be to the letter of the paleo plan, but they're not in the spirit of it. Almond flour noodles and carrot-based marinara does not make "paleo-Italian food", it makes crap.

I agree 100% about diet pop!!  There is no nutritional value and I understand completely how bad aspartame is for you.  But I still drink it..........for now::)

Pepperoni & Bacon are over processed with way too much sodium and cancer causing nitrates.  But I still eat them.........for now ::)

I will treat Paleo/Caveman like every other subject in my life.  I take what works for me, leave what doesn't and make it my own.  Almond flour noodles and carrot based marinara sounds good to me :-*

You can get some really good sausages and bacon from U.S. wellness meats...

The other thing that I do is have the butcher slice me up some uncured pork belly. It's the same as bacon without the sugar and nitrates! The best way to cook it is to bake it. Salt the strips than roll each piece loosely and tie it with butcher string than place it on a cookie sheet (make sure the cookie sheet has sides as it will make quite a bit of lard which you can save to cook with later). Place the roll center up so you can see the spiral from above. I bake around 375 degrees and just keep on eye on it until it's cooked. Last night I made this but I wrapped it around a meatball (ground beef, chopped chives, egg, and sea salt). To give it a little flare I inserted three thin wedges of white onion in the top of the meatball. Rub them on the pork belly so they will caramelize and not burn. They look pretty cool - I think I'll bring them to the next bbq I go to.

Best of luck - it's all about finding food that hasn't been altered and experimenting.

Sarah, have you tried the pork belly baked on a flat pan laid out like regular bacon?  Just wondering if you need to roll it up for a specific reason.  I like the meat ball idea.  I think I will do that tonnight for dinner only I have real bacon right now.  I'll try the pork belly when I can find some.  Karma your way for that idea...

Well, now I must Stand and Bow to you for that idea.  We just finished dinner and wow, it was great.  I took ground buffalo, minced mushrooms, a minced shallot, 4 minced garlic cloves, one egg, a tiny bit of salt, fresh ground black pepper, dried basil and mixed it all together, made meatballs, wrapped them in low sodium bacon and baked at 375...wow again.  Served with baked asparagus and brocillini.  One of the wife's new favorites.  THANKS!!!
No expectations, no disappointments!
