When I fist started paleo I could only find one forum and a bit of scattered info about the diet.  Now it seems there's a new paleo blog/forum opening every week.

It's definitely becoming more popular

The "Seven Deadly Sins"

• Grains (wheat/rice/oats etc) . . . . . • Dairy (milk/yogurt/butter/cheese etc)
• Refined foods (salt/sugars etc ) . . • Nightshades (peppers/tomato/eggplant)
• Tubers (potato/arrowroot etc) . . . . • Legumes (soy/beans/peas)
• Modernly palatable (cashews/olives etc)

OMG  we might lose our advantage!!!
The answer to your question is 'eat more fat'.

Stop counting calories. If you are eating Paleo, there is usually no need.

If you are having weight loss issues, it'd be a good idea to start posting a detailed food journal, then everyone can help.

'Anecdotal Evidence' is an oxymoron.

My wife and I started eating paleo at the end of 2005.

I did it for overall health reasons (I wasn't very fat or anything).
I lost the belly that I did have and now I'm focused on building some muscle, which seems to be going well.
I no longer have join pain (I used to have a horrible knee) * caused by nightshades
I am sleeping much better (I had something like delayed sleep-phase syndrome)

My wife has lost about 15kg and she is very close to her ideal weight.
She had:
Bad asthma (daily Ventolin use and hospital once a year) - now almost completely gone (she uses her inhaler maybe once every 3 months) *caused by dairy
Frequent migraines - now completely gone * caused by grains
Constant yeast infections - now completely gone * caused by sugar
Reoccurring tonsillitis (she can't get her tonsils out being an asthmatic) - non since being paleo

Thanks for the specifics.  I want to look more into the nightshades issue...Do you have any links to recommend on that topic?

Edited to add: I just found this: http://cavemanforum.com/index.php?action=printpage;topic=1028.0  Tarlach--you responded  to this ? w/ links as well--I'm going to check them out!

This seems pretty useful. OP, you should edit your first post and add this list (along with new people who get added). Nice idea.

Hm, looks like either paleo is picking up, or this site is.

Another contributing effect is that some people who come to the forum either:

a) Stop posting after a while, even if they keep eating paleo.
b) Give up on paleo for one reason or another.

I'm sure if you browse older threads you'll find a lot of people who simply stopped posting after a while.

"Started cold turkey back in early 09'. I had previously been on a "heart healthy" low-fat diet. All I did was look at saturated fat content when deciding what to eat. Of course I started gaining body fat even despite my jogging/running every other day and calorie deficit. I felt like total crap. Heard about a caveman diet from some airman only to google it and find this site. Everything that I read made sense and I'm extremely satisfied with the results of adhering to this diet. Superb."

Started cold turkey, the plan was keep it 100% paleo for the first month or so to see how I felt, then at the end of the month decided to keep going as close to Paleo as possible because of how good I felt and looked.

As far as results go, I am gaining lean muscle mass (always had trouble keeping weight on), eczema on hands and fingers has completely disappeared, no more psoriasis and have become even more of a sex maniac. I used to have such dry skin that it would crack and scale off, now I don't even need to use moisturiser.

Do you all think this thread deserves to be stickied? With the list in the first post?

If the list is added to the first post, yeah, I think it is a good idea.

Weighed 196
As of today, 165 with a goal of 159, which is my best estimate, things could change.

Good point.  I do think there's a real effect, though, at least with respect to this forum.  When I first started posting here, the "recent posts" list went back a week or two; now the same size list goes back only a day or two.

This is going to sound weird but I can't remember what started me on Paleo but I actively looked for a forum and was lucky enough to find you guys.

I have been strict only giving in this weekend and having about a half dozen diet cokes at a party.

God I felt horrible. I'm sure the caffeine must narrow your arteries. It certainly didnt make me stay awake. I was off to bed at 11.10. and the next morning, my lower leg fluid retention was up, I had a headache and a horrible dry mouth which has stayed with me all weekend.

I love this way of eating, it really suits the things I like to eat. A plate of steak, eggs and mushrooms is heaven to me!

I am a weeny bit discouraged that the weight has plateaued.  I have started exercising a bit. And I am hopeful that my weight will go down. Body fat measuring scales should arrive tomorrow :)

Oh and my blood pressure normalised after a month of paleo eating. :D

I love my computer, all my friends live in it.

I found that any "cheating"-(Diet soda,etc...) seriously slowed my progress. Too many calories is also a detrimental condition. May be time to look at portion size (more, smaller meals) and optimal nutrition value in the foods you eat.
