Naturism
« on: January 24, 2012, 07:36:25 PM »
Has anyone out there experimented with naturism (nudism) as an adjunct to a paleo lifestyle? I would think it would be a logical extension of paleo practice, but there is zero on the boards about it that I have been able to find.  In my own experience it is very freeing and a great way to get extra vitamin D. I am lucky in that I live on five heavily wooded acres with walking tracks, but there are other venues for such practices all over the world.  Has anyone else tried it?

I'm thinking you may live somewhere warmer than Massachusetts is right now.

I especially like swimming naked in the sea, rivers or lakes - there are plenty of naturist beaches close to me and even some naturist resorts, although I haven't been to them.

Hi Suze.  It's been about 3 years since your last posts. Welcome back.

It's has a large following in Southern California. Black's Beach in San Diego is not officially a nude beach, but law enforcement (state park rangers and lifeguards) tend to not bother unless there is a complaint.

Black's Beach was made officially clothing optional by the city council back in the 1970s. But some people got it put on the ballot to reverse it back.  The initiative won by a slim margin: 50.25% in favor of ending clothing optional and 49.75% against.

There are also a number of private clubs within 100 miles.

I had friends who did a two day nude canoe trip down the Colorado River. Apparently once you get away from the major campgrounds along the river nobody cares.

We like to vacation at resorts that have nude beaches....  We love it!  We had been doing that long before we went Paleo

Thanks! I've been checking in occasionally, but not posting.  Diet-wise I've been all over the place, but I've decided to get back to basics! Since I turned 50 I've seen my weight creep up inexorably, and I want it to level out and possibly head in the other direction.  I know that that paleo is the best way to make that happen and feel great at the same time.

I'd like to go naturist when it's warm, but I think our kids would find it too wierd.    ;D

I partook in a fair amount of nudism years ago when I was single and had more leisure time. Both myself and my GF at the time enjoyed it, and later, when I met my soon-to-be wife, we spent some time at some of the clothing-optional beaches in both Southern California and Hawaii.

The problem with it for me is that here is So Cal, it is too politicized and enjoying it is too much work. You have to constantly "be in the know" on what is being enforced where at any given moment since there are no truly legal nude beaches here. Police and park rangers have periods of enforcement and you have to know when to avoid certain locations during these periods. Since I was a casual and occasional "nudist", keeping track of all of it just got to be too much work.

I found being nude on a beach to be incredibly liberating and physically refreshing. In the right setting, with the right people, it is anything but sexual. But the "naughty" stigma associated with nudism is rampant here in the States, thanks to the remnants of our Puritanical roots. Of course, this is how people who have never tried it feel. Those of us who have, understand that it is just a very natural and non-sexual experience. But try to tell that to the finger-waggers. They all know what's good for us because, clearly, we don't.

Hi JayJay,

If you want to avoid worrying about what mood the cops or rangers are in on certain days you can try places like this. This is in the high desert 75 miles east of San Diego.

There are plenty of "finger waggers" here in New Zealand as well, although being topless, for a female, is not against any law.  But social pressure ensures that if women do decide to sunbathe topless it will make the paper http://www.stuff.co.nz/taranaki-daily-news/news/6314811/Topless-OK-but-swim-between-flags. I genuinely don't understand why people have a problem with it.
