Sterilised, which is nicer than I'd be considering the devastation cats are causing to our native fauna. I'd be giving them to an animal shelter, the kittens would have a chance at being adopted but probably put down, the mother would almost definitely be put down.

Domestic short hair cats tend to be stringy and tough...but you could eat them in a pinch for sure....  Just not my taste plus the wife would kill me...

Seriously, I really get angry about feral cats... and rabbits. Actually any kind of domestic animal gone feral, but cats and rabbits most of all. The cats kill everything and the rabbits destroy the land. I dunno about letting them free again.

In truth I just bought a rifle specifically for rabbits, my other one was too big, didn't leave anything to eat. We don't get many feral cats out our way.

I will have these guys fixed and release them back to the wild.

My neighbor did the same thing.  He wanted the cats around to keep the mouse population down so he also sups their diet with dry food so they do stick around his place.  This beats others that don’t get the cats fixed, have multiple litters nonstop, half that are sick, suffer and then die before they can mouse anyway...Gawd!!!   
My dog won’t tolerate stray cats so it’s up to the snakes to keep the mice down around my place.
