Here is a lay Biblical scholar who teaches that an Atkins or Paleo diet is the healthiest:

Myths About Nutrition and Diet in the Bible http://www.biblelife.org/biblediet.htm  See Myth No. 2 - Grains are great because Jesus fed the people loaves of bread.  Also when you read about the bread of Ezekiel 4:9 you will never eat it again.

We were talking tonight and she mentioned that she had a grilled chicken sandwich at Chik-fil-a and felt crappy all day afterwards.  I gave a wise as answer and said, "and grains are supposed to be okay?"  We discussed it some more and she realized she had only had grains once in the past four days and was feeling really good and didn't have any cravings.  She has replaced sweet treats with berries and homemade whipped cream.

So, even if she still thinks grains are okay, she is buying into my propaganda :D

I bet if she sees some weight loss on top of it, she will really stick with it.  I may have to do a blog about it the whole odea of Jesus ate grains though.  Will save that for a day when I have more time to think.

They were peasants 2,000 years ago. The bread they ate was mostly made of barley because even wheat was too expensive.  The grains we eat today are not the same. We eat hybrid grains that have been developed over the centuries.  Jesus was here to save their souls, not give lectures on cuisine.

MEGS: COMMENT ONE-->In Jesus's day bread was made from "sprouted" grains - bakers and housewives soaked wheat/barley/spelt for 2 to 3 days before they ground and/or mashed the grain into flour.  Sprouted grains contain significantly less LECTINS than what we use today.   COMMENT TWO: Who says Jesus knew any better?   He is allegedly God, but may have been a mortal, as naive as I am.  I only learned to avoid grains at age 61...Jesus didn't live that long.  LOVE, DAD.
