Does anyone know if the cavemas had acne? If they did how did they get rid off them?

Probably not as severe as we get it, and I'm certain that if they did have it it was probably limited to teenagers or unhealthy individuals.

Cutting out dairy and wheat in the course of going paleo, along with adding a fish oil and a zinc supplement, has made a huge difference in my skin.  I'm also very sensitive to cosmetic products and soaps, so I typically only use castor oil and jojoba oil to clean my face, and have been shooting for using just baking soda and lemon juice to clean my hair

It's taking some time, but my skin is finally healing thanks to the more natural diet and beauty routine.

I believe they did. We've always chosen mates based on physical characteristics.

Only as they applied to the ability to produce offspring. I suspect wide hips were more important.

Yes, but acne tends to resemble numerous other afflictions - such as measles, smallpox, or chicken pox. These are surefire reasons to reject a mate.

Hadn't considered that, but it's worth considering.

My bet is that paleolithic peoples simply didn't have acne.  Certainly it seems largely to clear up when people here go paleo.

It certainly is very diet interconnected. I remember one study held with teenage boys where just going low GI (but still with grains etc) decreased acne by 50%. I'm reasonably confident that if they'd cut grains, processed sugars and dairy that number would be a lot higher.
The answer to your question is 'eat more fat'.

Stop counting calories. If you are eating Paleo, there is usually no need.

If you are having weight loss issues, it'd be a good idea to start posting a detailed food journal, then everyone can help.

'Anecdotal Evidence' is an oxymoron.

Kitavans and Aché tribesmen do not have any signs of acne (1). They are not even paleo, but if they don't have acne living a subsistence-farming life, I would also agree with Warren.
