Sassenach is back...

Hi!
I am back after a long hiatus. During this time, I have not been paleo. Just focusing on eating well and actually working on my head as that seemed to be my huge stumbling block before. I haven't been at the gym either as my foot is taking it's sweet time healing.
After working on how my brain thinks and how I relate to food (emotional eater issues), I find I am naturally drifting towards a paleo type diet. I feel I am ready to make this a permanent way of life.
It looks like I have a lot of catching up to do, but for now I'll introduce myself as a new specimen, since I am a paleo infant really still.
I am soon to be (26 more days) 33 years old. I am a wife and a mother to two young daughters. I work full time as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist at my local hospital here in BC, Canada.
I am 5'7 and at least 100 lbs overweight I am sure. I actually haven't been brave enough to cope with the scale yet. All I know is that my sports bra doesn't fit anymore. I have Hashimoto Thyroiditis and Chronic Idiopathic Urticaria and for this I take Synthroid and Antihistamines daily. I have intolerances to dairy, soy, corn, and gluten. I am having some allergy testing done in a few weeks and I am sure more things will come up. However, eating proper paleo, none of this will matter anyways.
I have a permanent injury which I suffered almost a year ago to my left foot that makes most exercising painful. But somethings that I have found that don't bother it are: cycling, pushups, Tabata Thrusters, and most weight lifting exercises.
Feels good to be back....

Throw away your scale, just use a tape measure!
Good to have you back
To be honest I've thought about your situation quite a bit, and I am sure we can make this work for you and get the result you need.

The answer to your question is 'eat more fat'.
Stop counting calories. If you are eating Paleo, there is usually no need.
If you are having weight loss issues, it'd be a good idea to start posting a detailed food journal, then everyone can help.
'Anecdotal Evidence' is an oxymoron.

Eat what you should and don't eat what you should not. Time will work it out but only you can make it happen...

Maybe doing some detox protocols along with Paleo diet will speed things up.
Colon cleanse, kidney cleanse, liver flushes.
If you need more info on those, just tell me.

Thanks guys!
I haven't tried swimming but that's a good thought! Our local pools are hideously expensive during normal hours, but they have a twoonie swim ($2) after 9pm on weeknights. I should give that a go a couple times a week too. I have been dragging my butt joining the gym again. I just hate spending the money each month. It's not overly expensive but it's still overpriced IMHO. I am now wondering if I can scrape together something between swimming, Tabata, pushups, and the occasional workout DVD and yoga DVD. Hmmmm got me thinking!
The only thing I have read up a lot on, from various sources, is that VLC tends to shut the thyroid down even further. I'm not sure I will accomplish this as fructose from fruit is to be limited as well. I am hesitant about sweet potatoes and/or yams....dunno. At any rate I'll just focus eating Paleo and focus on my body too. One thing I have learned is to listen to my body cues about when I am hungry and at the designated "lunch time" if I am not hungry....a cup a tea passes the time nicely :-)
I like the thought about the measuring tape instead of the scale!! Thanks! I will do that!

'Ello! Exercising in water sounds good. I hope the allergy tests go well - are the skin tests or other sorts?

Hi!
I've had the skin allergy tests (RAST testing) and because of my Chronic Idiopathic Urticaria, I get large welts from each skin scratch and then they all join together as one hive. So they can't tell from that if I actually may have an allergy to that. That's where Western medicine has left it and they refuse to test further.
My appt is with a Doctor of Chinese Medicine. She tested my oldest daughter when she was 2 and the results were incredibly accurate. I am the hugest skeptic out there of smoke and mirror type medicine practices and for whatever reason the muscle testing she did worked. She accurately isolated 5 things that my daughter was sensitive to and as soon as we kept her from eating those, her eczema, diarrhea, abdominal pain disappeared and her immune system came back. This same daughter had the RAST testing and it showed up nothing. So...I am going to see what I may have in store for me. She also performs accupuncture and other techniques for having your body heal itself.

I think acupuncture is wonderful. That 's great news finding someone who has a method that works for you.
