Let's go Paleo
« on: August 17, 2010, 05:30:07 PM »
Well I am starting today to follow the Paleo diet. Both my daughters are crossfitters and mostly follow paleo eating. I have MS and had followed the MS recovery diet for over a year and a half - but for some reason once I fell off that eating plan I could not get focused to return to it. The MS recovery diet is similar to paleo eating except that many more grains, rice, potato and corn is allowed. After going back to poor eating habits and having the good fortune to take a vacation every month this year I put on 25 pounds from Jan to Jun. Now I am finally tired enough of caring this around to want to change it. I saw the 60 day challenge by PaleoBlocks and decided that having community to support me would be just the thing I need to get back on track with clean eating. The irony is I felt so excellent and suffered less MS fatigue when I was following this eating plan. Why is it so difficult to eat in a way that makes us feel so good?
Please chime in with your support and success stories.

All I can say is it is really not hard for my wife and I to stay way Paleo.  We don't eat grass fed but we take fish oil to get help with the omega 3.  I sure hope you find a way to make this EASY on you too!!!
No expectations, no disappointments!

My stats

here goes..I am 53 years old, 5 feet tall, shot up to 146.5 since January (Dec I weighed 126) I am largely inactive due to fatigue from MS. I had begun Yoga until I fell and fractured a vertebrae last month. I had a nerve block injection this week and was able to go for a walk last night but only lasted 10 minutes due to knee pain. My knee is being looked at this week by an orthopedic specialist so hopefully I'll have some relief there and be able to walk and get back to yoga. That reminds me I need to schedule my Physical Therapy!
I appreciate all the advice and input around diet and staying honestly paleo.

One piece of additional advice:  paleolithic man got plenty of vitamin D, not from the diet, but from sun exposure.  If you don't get outdoors in the sun very much, vitamin D supplementation may be advisable, especially given your age, sex, and the bone fracture.

Hi MM! I totally agree with Warren about the sun - it's awfully good for all kinds of skeletal problems and really helps with sore joints.

It's not difficult - it's just that you have to choose whether you want immediate (and often short lived) pleasure or you are going for longer term wellness.
