Former raw vegan new here!
« on: August 23, 2010, 10:19:34 AM »
Hello everyone! (looking for a waving smily face) I am a former raw food vegan now eating paleo. I was big into the raw food world teaching classes and even had a website. I ate that way for 3 years, lost alot of weight, even had Womans First magazine come to my home and do a full page spread about me, the diet and my weight loss however... I was HUNGRY ALL THE TIME! I lost weight and alot of muscle. I am naturally muscular to being with. As soon as I started eating sad I gained 45 lbs easy. That was even while watching my fat intake! It got to the point that I was really starting to HATE my physical self, asking God to please do something about all of this fat and praying for an answer. Well, he gave me one cause while I was reading the newspaper someone did an article on paleo eating and saying who refine carbs cause weight gain. Hummm... here I had really thought I knew everything that there was to know about nutrition. So, that is when I got online and was like wow! This is it! This is how I can change my body composition and lose all of this extra nasty body fat! Well, its ONLY been a week and a few days and I can already start to see the muscles in my legs and stomach!! I am soooo excited! And this better than eating only raw vegan food cause... I am NEVER HUNGRY!!!
I can't wait to see the new sexy me minus the extra weight eating the caveman way!!

Welcome!
I did some raw veg and raw fruit time too!  :D

I did 2 months of raw vegan - malnutrition.
I did 2 months of raw fruitarian - malnutrition.
Then I started raw paleo diet Jan 2008 and was amazed at how fantastic I felt and stuck with it.
My joke to raw vegans is "their raw vegs and raw fruit would be a whole lot better and more complete if they added raw animal meat and fat into it."

My wife eats a mostly cooked paleo diet, we found out this was not enough for her without organs.  She was diagnosed with B12 deficiency and she just bounced back when she got a B12 shot and ate some raw beef liver and raw clams daily.  Remember to eat organs and whole clams for the B12 (muscle meat is not enough).

Thanks Goodsamaritan for telling me about the organ meats. I wasn't paying them any attention in the grocery store!

Question:

Why do you think raw veganism seems to have hit mainstream and is somewhat acceptable?

Why on the other hand raw meat raw animal fat eating is not acceptable?  Don't the Japanese eat tons of raw sea food and raw horse sashimi?

Partially cooked meat is okay from time to time when you are healthy, but truly sick people need raw food healing.

Many paleo dieters merely sear their meat in the long run.

Just curious, you are a longer term raw vegan than I was.

My guess is that it is partially due to Jewish kashrut dietary laws. It is not kosher to consume blood.  Not that prevents others from doing it, but the Jewish bible (Torah) is a big influence on Christians, Muslims, and on many others.  And much of it is a carrying on of social taboos rather than actual religiosity.

Hi Paleodiva.

On the vegan thing - I thought it was on the shirttails of the ecological food production movement
