One year ago February I had a partial thyroidectomy. Since my throat was bandaged and tight, bread and pasta were too uncomfortable to eat. After I got tired of pudding and jello, my husband made me nice hearty vegetable and meat stews. Not only were they yummy, but I began to lose weight. I was on a thyroid site to get more information on my recovery and someone posted about paleo-I didn't eat dairy or legumes anyway, I had eliminated wheat, and I never ate desserts. This was something that came pretty easy to me. What was hard to get used to was eating a lot more meat, as I skewed towards vegetarian.

I found a post on bogleheads.org forum (a finance forum) about paelo which led me to read neanderthin, paelo diet and the primal blueprint. Been on board ever since (about 2 years)... went from 196 at 19%bf to 175 at low 10%. Changed my workouts around as well and am stronger, faster, more flexible, etc. than before.
Paelo diet + 2 days strength training, 1 day hill sprints, 1 day yoga per week = awesomeness!

I was sick all the time. Now I'm getting better. I still am sick, but I expect that in a year or so, I'll be back to good health.

I was trying to live healthy with the help of an Ecotrophologist (western diet, food pyramid etc) and i was working out 3 times a week for 1,5 years and i felt horrible all of the time.
The doctor tested my blood and it showed that i am food allergic to almost everything. vegetables, fruits, gluten, lactose etc. according to all the stuff from the 2 pages with my allergies from the doctor i wasnt allowed to eat anything. It was a shock and i tried to manage some meals with the Ecotrophologist that i could eat... didnt work. We tested that for like a year and it didnt go better.
I ate alot of very expensive stuff "gluten-free" but i was hungry all the time and my workouts in the gym where not getting better in any way - i felt tired all the time. It was a very very bad time. I felt sick and ill. I had a gastroscopy which showed my stomach was fine.
All the different Doctors where at the end, no one knew what to do next and my trust in the doctors was getting less and less... I felt alot like they didnt even pay attention to me at the end.
Some day at the gym i was getting a new workout-plan from the guy that is doing the crossfit courses and we had like 2hours where he showed me new stuff and we spoke about the allergic problems. He told me to try Paleo and gave me a book hint. He tried Paleo too but it didnt work out for him.
The next day i started Paleo "cold turkey" and bought the book he told me. I lost 10kg till now and my strength is getting better from week to week.
Oh and all my allergys are gone by the way... except the gluten and lactose stuff which i dont know because i didnt touch that stuff again since i started.
The only bad thing i have is that i have to pee at night.. and i feel kind of bad/tired in the morning till i ate something. I am getting 8 hours of sleep and when i wake up i am going straight to the kitchen like a zombie
Maybe someone got a hint for that?
At the moment im trying to eat alot of fish, eggs, less pork and alot of veggies. Bad thing is that i cant get any 100% grass-fed meat around here thats why i try alot of wild fish.

Hmmmmm good question. Health problems of Doug my husband - overweight, no exercise, dying in front of my eyes. And also my own problems. Have been heavy since 93, especially after meeting my husband Doug. We ate out almost every day. And sometimes we each had two meals at the same "date." We slowly gained weight, and by the time we moved here to Montana our weight had become "out of control." We then tried all the diets, the Zone, Atkins, old diet books from the library, etc. Nothing was working. We liked Atkins, but we were both having intestinal problems with dairy and grains. After my emergency gall bladder surgery a year or more ago (which probably was not even necessary), we decided to seriously find something that would work.
Being a physical anthropologist in the old days, I started looking into Google and other search sites for better options. And WHAM! We found it. It made sence to us, and we tried it for a few days. Well what can I say! We had our last sandwiches in March of this year. And have really gone paleo. Doug weighed in at 299 3/4 pounds in March, and is now down to 238 pounds, and is steadily dropping. His goal weight is 180. As for myself, I have lost a total of 37 pounds and am very happy about that, now getting into size 16 jeans from 22's and having the 16s a bit loose. I still have about 40 pounds to go. Which I know I can do slowly and sanely. I've learned to love our more natural foods, and I loved getting rid of everything that is not allowed on this diet, following Mr. Sisson and Mr. Wolf's guidelines. I am not hungry, neither is Doug. He loves his paleo food and has been touting it loudly at the VA hospital where he was recently operated on for intestinal problems. We also have better moods.
I feel much as I did back in 1964 when I was first married - I weighed 99 pounds on that day of days, and didn't weigh much more than that after my kids were born. But come my 50's and stopping dancing, working out, etc., etc., and met Doug and we had "the good life" well I balooned up to 200 pounds. Not good for one who is 5'2 with a small frame. I looked like a weeble!
Never again will I allow myself to be this heavy. My goal is to get down to 130 pounds which looked great on me. And I want to stay there.

I was diagnosed with MS in the summer and I decided to clean up my diet to help myself, or to slow progression. I spoke to my friend who is a nutritionist and she suggested cutting gluten, sugar and dairy. While I was googling this I came across Paleo, it was also mentioned on some MS forums. Another friend told me she was doing it for her arthritis and that was enough to convince me to go for it. I don't follow the immune protocol as I'd not stick to it, but I am very happy I'm doing the best for my body by not filling it with crap, I could have lived off cereal before. I'm just about finished my 30 days and there is no going back.

I thought I recognized the name. I, too had looked into the rawpaleodiet forum but was unable to log in. I find I have more options here since I prefer most meats cooked although I love beef very rare and will eat sushi. I hope to find more energy by cutting out grains and sugar and i do eat too much cheese...hoping to find some good advice, simple meal plan ideas and inspiration on this site I am new to using any kind of forum so bear with me if i post or reply in all the wrong places

My wife and I are really new to paleo. We wanted to find a way to stay out of the center of the grocery store, ie. "Boxed-up Carb Zone". We like it.

Only day 6 for me, but my motivation is 1. Improving athletic performance and 2. Getting rid of that last few kgs of body fat that I just have not been able to shift, no matter what I do. I already exercise a lot, but even with eating 1300-1500 calories a day while doing hard exercise just would not change anything. I have already lost over 1kg in 5 days, a lot of that would be bloat/water weight, but i'm impressed. I can already feel my jeans are slightly looser around my tummy, thighs and bum.

Well, I weighed 281 lbs at 5'5" when I decided to go Paleo. I was eating a huge amount of carbs (and calories) and could see 300 lbs. coming.
Last month, a local TV news program had a report by "Dr. Nancy" who lost 3 dress sizes by eating Paleo. That got me to look online for more information... and here I am.
On 12-12-2011, I began Paleo and am doing great. I lost 16 pounds and my blood sugars went from 162 to 110.
This forum has been a huge help as well - I know I can come here if I hit a roadblock or just to read other posts.

After being diagnosed with MS and being on those crazy drugs I looked for another way to treat it. I was told that going off dairy would be beneficial and it was. Next I heard that grains were also problematic. I thought that going off grains would be impossible. After giving it up I had dreams of eating bread. I looked more into it and found Paleo. It has worked great. It is surprising how may people I know with MS think I am nuts. There thinking is they have dealt with so much they want to at what they want. On top of that they get little to no support from their medical professionals. Most physicians think that I am nuts for not being on meds.

I had struggled to lose 35 lbs. in 6 months eating a standard diet (still eating pasta, rice, etc., just smaller portions). I was hungry and irritable all the time. I was doing some research one day, and stumbled upon the Paleo diet. It was like a light bulb went off. The concept behind it makes perfect sense. After starting it, I lost an additional 45 lbs. in a month and a half. I felt much better and was far less hungry than before.
I got lazy and stopped eating Paleo, and gained all the weight back and then some. Now I'm back on it for good. I've lost 50 lbs. since starting January 4th, 2012.

I saw someone elses success and said, "Hey that could be me!" Changed our way of eating about 2 years ago. I went from about 175 pounds to 148. Now I had no serious weight problem, just high blood pressure and really bad sinus condition (wheat alergy unknown to me at the time). We were pretty good but I am not so good now and have gained back about 7 pounds but still, if I got back to my good workouts and cut alcohol, I would be back down in no time. So we have begun to buckle and I will get back in the gym (my garage) this weekend. Stopped workouts due to hip pain, better now so back at it....here we go!
