Here is an interview I thought some people might enjoy - there are times it's a bit slow but I learned a few things. She has a couple of different ideas than Loren Cordain - especially about the consumption of fruit and fat. I ordered her book because I would like to read in more detail about her research - I let you know what I think of it after I receive it.

There are two segments...

Segment One: http://www.wellnessrdshow.com/archives/shows/?id=100028

Segment Two: http://www.wellnessrdshow.com/archives/shows/?id=100040

If you like her point of view she now has her own radio show.

Thanks so much for posting these! They are so excellent!! Wow!! Such good info. I found it interesting where she said in the first interview to have no more than about 6 oz. of protein per day. I think I may have been overdoing it! And to fill up with fats instead, that is so good! I never think of that, but it really does make a difference, to have some olive oil or coconut oil or lard with the veggies, it fills you up so much better and will help you last so much longer too. Good stuff!

So I read the book....and....I'd definitely recommend it. I think it's packed full of very useful information. While I don't agree with everything in the book - like eating dairy products (she recommends grass-feed organic raw whole milk and butter "if tolerated") and using salt - I think the book is well written and relies on scientific research and common sense. The main focus of the book is how leptin and insulin effect our bodies and minds.

The film maker, Tom Naughton, of "Fat Head" also has posted a review of her book, if you're interested...

She says that we should eat moderate amounts of fruit and meat for the same reason. Sugar.

Cultivated fruit is not the same as wild/ancestral fruit. It has been selected over the centuries to be sweeter.

On protein, she says that the RDA is right for once and we should eat a low amount (I don't remember how much). The reasons are that the excess protein gets converted into glucose in the body. And that it also puts us on a metabolic pathway that lead to speeded up tissue growth to prepare for reproduction. Which, with no reproduction being done, she says raises the risk of cancer. (I don't know if that is a concern for everyone or just people who are past reproductive age.)

She says that balanced omega fat is what creates saiety in a meal. Hunting is good and we don't need to be hungry anymore. Eat up on the fat!

What I thought was interesting was the use of amino acids to treat/cure emotional imbalances and carb cravings. They do work--and fast!
Change requires you to scream, I'M NOT GONNA TAKE ANY MORE!...and then you don't.

Oops, sorry I missed this discussion a couple of days ago. I'm glad someone else was able to answer - thanks Lone Wolf! Also thanks for commenting on the amino acids - I didn't try them but I was wondering if they cut carb cravings.

He is right about what the book says. Her big focus in on not raising blood sugar - I do agree with her that keeping insulin production down is healthy. It's funny that this thread has been brought up again because I just decided to go this month (so I'm only 4 days in) with following her recommendations closer than I have in the past. For this month I'm not eating anything that will spike my blood sugar - so no fruit (except a bowl of berries once a week), and no starchy vegetables. I am however still eating more meat than she recommends but I have upped my animal fat intake at meals which has made me want to eat a little less meat. I've been eating only green leafy veggies vs. starchier veggies which she also recommends because leafy greens help flush out spent hormones and toxins. She says that eating greens is more important now than it was to our ancestors because there are so many toxins in our current environment. I agree with this too - I think it's a big problem. I let you know my thoughts at the end of the month. So far it's been pretty easy - very satisfied, no cravings so far.

I found it interesting where she said in the first interview to have no more than about 6 oz. of protein per day.

Six ounces of protein is a pound and a half of meat.  That seems like a lot to me.  Granted, it's a maximum.

Wlfdg, you're very active, and I get the impression you're not small in the first place, so sure, you eat more meat than that.  I have a light build and I'm not very active, so what's normal for you is "a lot" for me.

Plus, I don't really have convenient hunting areas.

Lonewolf is right. Which means she is saying less than half a pound (.375) for the average person per day.

She also states that 6ozs. of meat is 45-52 grams of protein.  ???
Beef, chicken, turkey, etc... all are in the area of 36g. of protein for 6ozs.  ::) ???
