This weekend has been mostly fruit and nuts: macadamias, walnuts, frozen grapes, peaches, and of course, coffee. I've also had a bit of very dark chocolate - it feels so decadent.

Haven't weighed myself this weekend.

Both (non-paleo) kids have colds. I haven't had any symptoms yet. Hope it stays that way - I can do without a snot-fest. : )

Weight this morning - 152. Only 4 more pounds to my goal weight.

Breakfast this morning - smoothie with coconut milk, fruit, spinach
Snack - handful of walnuts
Lunch - 3 eggs cooked in lots of butter over raw chopped red pepper
Dinner tonight - will be the pork roast I have in the slow cooker with lots of onions

Dinner was so good last night. The slow-cooked pork roast and onions along with a perfect avocado was very satsifying.

While my diet is mostly paleo, I've held out on giving up dairy because I love it so much, and it's eased the emotional pain of giving up my beloved grains and sugars. I don't drink milk and rarely crave cheese, but I totally lust after butter, cream, sour cream - especially butter.

But here's the deal: while my weight has slowly dropped, and my blood sugar and moods have stabilized, I can't get rid of my stupid eczema. And I'm afraid to think that the dairy in my diet might have something to do with it.

Any advice or experience. Anybody want to tell me that it couldn't be the butter?!

I'd been doing so well before a two-day backslide involving chocolate cake. I've noticed that sometimes I'm able to ignore such things and other times they're a siren's song. Maybe it's a hormonal issue. Anyway, my daughter has agreed to stop baking other than for birthdays and such.

Both evenings involving chocolate cake I've woken up the next morning with the joints of my fingers aching and feeling a little swollen.

I won't be weighing myself for a little while...

Lately, if I cheat, it's Breyer's All Natural Ice Cream like Mint Chocolate or chocolate chip, and I have it about two hours before going to bed. I still lose or maintain my weight.

I have been reading and listening to Robb Wolf's podcasts at www.robbwolf.com and he says if you are going to cheat, it's better with 85% cocoa chocolate bars or ice cream rather than gluten.

When you go to birthday parties, ask them to serve ice cream. I always feel bad after eating gluten rather than ice cream.

I am not advocating eating ice cream on Paleo, but check this out:

Thanks for the info DTSMA. Is it the gluten that causes the aching joints? I don't get migraines when I lay off the grains, so maybe it's a general inflammation thing?? Next time I feel myself tumbling off the wagon, I'll see if a little ice cream satisfies me without the painful side effects. I do occassionally have a little 86% Ghiradelli chocolate - pure heaven!

Posy, I hadn't seen your Kerrygold comment until just now. Thanks for your input. I'll lay entirely off the dairy at least for now. I do have other fats I love almost as much, like avocados and coconut oil.

Have I mentioned that I'm not a big meat (or eggs) fan? It's been hard to work up an appetite for it. It goes back to my texture issues, so I try to work in something crunchy like raw veggies or toasted pumpkin seeds to make it palatable. The one exception is pork roast. My inclination has always been to eat grains, but just like a heroin junkie craves his unhealthy fix, I know I can't let myself be guided solely by my cravings.

So today for breakfast I had some leftover ground turkey that I'd sauted with onion and red peppers. Lunch will probably be more of the same over a spinach salad.

Grains cause inflammation and are high in Omega-6s. That's why you would want to supplement with fish oil if your diet is high in grain fed beef to balance your Omega 3s/6s.
