Treadmill recommendations

Anyone have recommendations for buying a treadmill?  Good brand and model for home use?

No, but make sure the running surface is wide.  Very often that is how they cheap out on them.

Yes, I am thinking 55"X20" minimum, 60"x22" would be better but they get pricey at that size...

Believe it or not check Walmart.  They used to sell a decent looking one for a good price compared to Sears, Dicks, Sports Authority, etc.

I prefer the elliptical machines (if I'm going to use a machine for exercise) - and I especially like using them with no hands - I think it helps develop all the minor muscles and tendons.

Elliptical actually negates some of the benefits of weight bearing exercise due to the floating pedals.

would you say the same about swimming or treading water?

My suggestion is fark the treadmill, do some sprints. Sprint from point A to point B then rest. Rinse and repeat.
The answer to your question is 'eat more fat'.

Stop counting calories. If you are eating Paleo, there is usually no need.

If you are having weight loss issues, it'd be a good idea to start posting a detailed food journal, then everyone can help.

'Anecdotal Evidence' is an oxymoron.

Samjohn, I'm good with that but the wife will take some convincing.  I am all about making the wife happy.  When she is happy, I am happy.  Seems to work out well like that in our house.  Since she has joined me in the home gym and doing heavy weight training (as well as eating caveman with no complaints), I think she will get her treadmill.

Yes and road cycling as well.

If you really want to develop the interstitial muscles of the lower leg walk barefoot on natural surfaces, often, esp. sand or mud.

ok thanks wlfdg - I already do soft sand walking after I've swum the length of the beach here. And sorry bearso for taking your thread off on a tangent.

I'm stopping going to my gym anyway - I used to like the elliptical with my eyes shut but I wouldn't recommend it for the treadmill!

I'd recommend to check there are programs useful to you...I'll explain.
Plenty of treadmills have cardio programs, some have interval programs. Or also programs of uphill running where the treadmill changes the incline while you go...I'd look for that.
