I am considering ramping up my training for the highland games. A whole sport dedicated to throwing rocks, logs, weights, etc.

To prepare for that, my training regimen will consist of plenty of throwing, in addition to snatches, cleans, deadlifts, and squats.

Additionally I'm planning to get involved in martial arts... but considering how tight my schedule currently is w/out anything additional to work - unsure.
Diets fail because society as a whole believes body image is more important than health. The problem is that obesity is simply one of many symptoms of an illness, not the illness itself.

And I'm being cured.

Have you guys ever heard of Gym Jones?

http://www.gymjones.com/

I plateaued with my workout several years ago and couldn't get ahead. After 300 (the movie) came out all my buddies and I were wondering what the actors did to get in shape. Turns out they all spent several months training with these guys. Gym Jones stresses the importance of improving time between sets/exercises rather than increasing weight. After reading their website and watching their videos I started keeping track of my time between sets and cutting it down. I couldn't believe how much my workout improved.

Also, this gym doesn't use a lot of the standard equipment you normally see. Focus a lot on pushing/lifting/dragging heavy things (kettle bells, monster truck tires etc.) and mixing "strength" exercises (i.e. doing 20 chin ups then immediately dropping on the floor to do 30 sit-ups with a 15 sec break in between the next set).

Definitely a worthwhile site to peruse changed how I workout forever.

Mark is a legend around here (my home). Not for the "300" workout. For climbing and mountaineering.

....CROSSFIT....amazing, absolutely amazing....
The Crossfit folks didn't invent any of this stuff. They just marketed it better than anyone else.

Who's going to argue with this kind of marketing?

I know they didn't invent it but that's the training ideas they follow.  And putting pics of hot girls doing OHS doesn't seem to hurt their marketing efforts ;D
