I don't think body image issues are gender specific. I think they are more a matter of vanity. I do believe they are more prevalent and severe in women.

I think the media has skewed what we see as attractive. It's a bit of a freak show.
Luckily there are people like Marilou Dozois-Prevost and Laird Hamilton in the public eye.

I did a google image search of crossfit and liked what I saw. No overly bulky women there, at all.

All of this reading on exercise, and correct diet I've done has really simplified things in terms of my body image:

Eat right, and get strong and physically capable [read: healthy :)]. All the rest will fall into place, you'll become the shape you should be.

Change requires you to scream, I'M NOT GONNA TAKE ANY MORE!...and then you don't.

I have zero sympathy for all this 'the media gave me an eating disorder' idiocy. It is passing the buck just as surely as is suing Mcdonald's for being fat because you stuffed your face with burgers.

I agree 100%, but sympathy and empathy are not mutually exclusive. I still get the "I want to help" feeling, but not the "oh, man, I'm so sorry!" feeling.

I may see CROSSFIT GAMES in my future......

I guess I will just have to be okay with the stigma of being a "bulky" gal ::)

I find Cara Heads (US Weightlifting) to have one of the most pleasing physiques I've ever seen, and she is very muscular. But her form is also very feminine (and maybe a big exaggerated on the whole hip-to-waist ratio).

"Strong, healthy, intelligent" aesthetically speaking, trumps "skinny, weak, socially vacant" any day.

Diets fail because society as a whole believes body image is more important than health. The problem is that obesity is simply one of many symptoms of an illness, not the illness itself.

And I'm being cured.

These starvation victims they show on TV and in fashion magazines are just a terrible appearance. I like women that look fit and healthy.

Attraction is not only about appearance, both the skinny fat & "bulky" can appear aesthetically attractive, but for me "muscular" defiantly earns bonus all round hottie points. ;D

Cara is very, very strong.
She also seems to be a genuinely nice person who is a great ambassador for the sport of weightlifting.

Very. And Cara didn't even make it to the Olympics. She was an alternate and ended up sitting them out. Hard to believe, huh?

Our best lifter was little Melanie Roach. She came in 6th in her weight class. Quite the comeback story.
