Taxonomic Discrimination
« on: September 08, 2010, 11:51:15 PM »
I was having a discussion with a vegetarian friend when she told me that she just might go ahead and try some fish. I've heard this before and I always call them on their taxonomic discrimination.

Why is it morally acceptable for some people to kill and eat fish but not chickens or pigs or cattle? I never understood this.
Take time to deliberate, but when the time for action has arrived, stop thinking and go in.

The answer to your question is 'eat more fat'.

Stop counting calories. If you are eating Paleo, there is usually no need.

If you are having weight loss issues, it'd be a good idea to start posting a detailed food journal, then everyone can help.

'Anecdotal Evidence' is an oxymoron.

I know some people who will eat venison or wild caught fish but don't want to support factory farming.  I can kind of understand that viewpoint.  I feel better about wild or humanely raised food, although I can't always afford it.  Note to self, take up hunting.

I know some people who will eat venison or wild caught fish but don't want to support factory farming.

Sure - that has to do with the animals' living conditions that one is implicitly supporting.

However, "I won't eat animals, but I'll make an exception for fish" doesn't really make more sense than "I won't eat animals, but I'll make an exception for beef".

Edit:  you can always tell these people that you're bovo-suido-pisco-avo-ovo-vegetarian.
