I still have acne issues to this day (27), and I can tell you that I'm fairly certain some of it is diet related, but I don't know what precisely. Most of my issues come from being on steriods as a child/young adult due to medical reasons, if I had to guess.

Let me break this down: Around December, I stopped using soap. At all. I have perscription-grade soaps at home for acne prone areas, and stopped using those. Sure, I'll wash my nether-regions every so often with soap, but not my upper back or face. I do wipe down with witch hazel before bed, though.

I don't break out anymore, EXCEPT for a few rare cases. I assumed it was from days I didn't shower (I still shower, just no soap), but I think that's just correlation. On the days I didn't shower, I think they were "feeling crappy" days, either related to drinking the night before, or cheating with sweets. Not entirely sure, but I'm planning on keeping an eye on it

I used to have acne problems.  Since going paleo I've had two break outs.  One occurred right after eating a few [too many] pieces of dark chocolate*, the other after drinking a lot of light cream*.  Since ditching both I haven't had any problems, except the odd stress-related whitehead.

*I'm aware neither of these are "paleo, proper".  I interpret my body's reaction as a sign that I should not consume either again.  Not having acne is an ample trade off for restricting dairy and chocolate.  Lesson learned.  :P

I've had acne since 1965. Were hormones used in dairy cows back then?  Paleo has reduced the outbreaks, which are now mostly on my back and neck, sometimes my arms.  I haven't had a lot of facial acne since my 20s.

Do you have hot showers? Long hot showers are a big cause of acne on the back and shoulders.

I think you're right.  My acne on my back gets irritated from hot showers.  Over the past few days I've gone back to showering with cool (but not frigid) water.

Acne can be from a combination of:

Inflammation caused by intolerance of carbohydrate consumption;

Interaction between Testosterone and Insulin which creates Androgens which lead to over-production of sebum, where bacteria can breed excessively and irritate your skin, causing the inflammation which you are prone to;

Other irritations of the skin, in someone who has inflammation from carb intolerance.

I don't think the inflammation is caused by digesting carbs necessarily, if so, Kitvans would have acne as they consume a high carb diet. I go back to my argument that it is the grains (and dairy) that are the problem, not carbohydrate itself. Most westerners get their carbs from grains, so the trend would go hand in hand here.
Right Now.

Does anyone on here have SEVERE acne issues while being on Paleo for some time? And if you do, could you list your staple foods or direct me to you food blog.
Take time to deliberate, but when the time for action has arrived, stop thinking and go in.

I don't completely understand your question. Are looking for someone who is paleo and still has severe acne? Or someone who had sever acne before paleo?

Not sure but I can tell you I`ve had scalp issues for decades....itchy,flakey with little patches of red pimples. Most annoying.....modern medicine just gave me steroid dabbers and suggest I use specific medicinal shampoos.

Since going paleo and giving up grains and dairy my scalp has been excellent.That said I`ve backslided the last week and started putting some coffee cream in my java and presto......awoke to a zit this morning on my chin.

GRRRRR.......my gut feeling is dairy might be the culprit. >:(

Time to get back off the coffee cause I can`t drink it black.

Coffee and honey isn't actually that bad. But I love black coffee. Maybe add some spices, like cinnamon?

Yeah that will soften the flavour quite a bit, and there are lots of sundry benefits to cinnamon.
The answer to your question is 'eat more fat'.

Stop counting calories. If you are eating Paleo, there is usually no need.

If you are having weight loss issues, it'd be a good idea to start posting a detailed food journal, then everyone can help.

'Anecdotal Evidence' is an oxymoron.

I'm wondering this myself. Since I've stopped (largely) eating dairy, my skin has been great

I had bad back acne right up until two weeks after I quit dairy 100%. This was when I started Paleo, i never really ate much grain anyway.
